Books on Divorce
Below is a list of books on divorce that I refer my clients to or that my clients have told me about that they really enjoyed.
The Divorce Recovery SourcebookDawn Berry Bradley provides a good introduction to the stages of divorce and recovery. What I really like about this book is she describes the stages of emotions one goes through, how normal these feelings are, and how important it is to work through them and not get "stuck" in one stage. The book includes information from professionals in a variety of fields, as well as everyday people who have been through a divorce. She provides alot of vital information so you may be reading and re-reading chapters 6 months later and learning new information each time. Berry discusses the emotional impact of divorce, the effect on children, legal matters, remarriage, and blended families.
Life After DivorceThis book on divorce is really a gem. I found it easy to read with some wonderful advice on how to move forward after a painful split. Sharon Wegscheider-Cruse meticulously examines the obstacles that hold many divorced people back and effectively deals with overcoming these barriers. She shows you how to care for yourself through the crisis stage of divorce, welcome new feelings and turn an angry ex into a future friend.
Men are from Mars: Starting OverIf you liked John Gray's book "Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus" then you will also enjoy this book. Filled with gentle guidance, healing practices, and compassionate wisdom, Mars and Venus Starting Over will help men and women explore the meaning of loss, find their way through the healing process, and discover the secret to moving on.
Defusing The High Conflict Divorce by Bernard Gaulier Phd is a good book to read if you find yourself in a situation where have been divorced for several years but have continual conflicts with your ex-spouse. Please note it offers a lot of legal information and much of it has to do with Michigan Laws as the author's work and research was completed here.
Helping Children Cope With Divorce by Edward Teyber is a well-written book and one of my favorites for suggesting it to my clients. This books guides parents through the trials and tribulations of raising children of divorce offering advice and suggestions about dealing with your kids, and your ex.
